¡Hasta Luego!
¡Hola! My name is Chris. I’m practicing Spanish in South America for the next few months. I started this blog to share photos, stories, and updates for my friends and family. This adventure has been in the works for many months now, and I’m really looking forward to the trip. I type this post as I wait to head to the RDU airport for my flight (I’m taking a red-eye tonight and will be arriving tomorrow morning). I’m going to try to make an effort to post on here at least once per week.

Most people reading this probably have chatted with me in person. But for those new, my background is this. I’m 30 years old. I live in Montana. My free time is mostly spent outdoors; skiing, hiking, biking, etc. I work as a public defender, which means I represent people accused of crimes who are unable to afford the services of a private attorney. It’s a tough job, but I really enjoy the work and I’m privileged to do it.
I decided to plan this trip because I thought it would be a neat personal experience and I hope to become conversational in Spanish upon my return. I have friends who spent some time in South America who recommended it, and I appreciate their advice as I have been organizing my travel plans.
My plan is to live in Buenos Aires, Argentina for two months. I rented a furnished apartment in the Colegiales neighborhood. Additionally, I’m signed up with a Spanish program and will be in class for about 20 hours per week. Afterwards, my tentative itinerary is to travel to Chile, Bolivia, and Peru over the course of about a month. Then I will be returning to Montana in May.

One of my goals is to travel as light as possible. I’m taking a total of two bags, one large duffel bag that fits all of my clothing, toiletries, books. And one smaller daypack that I intend on taking to Spanish classes and using around cities. I have about ten days worth of clothes.
Hopefully the flight goes well. Wish me luck! -Chris
